Avanti International has been selected to work in partnership with Infostrada SpA (62.96% owned by Ferrovie dello Stato) and Ferrovie Nord Milano S.p.A. (26.11% owned by Ferrovie dello Stato) to design and construct the €13.4bn €3.4bn Intercity Veloce (CIV) high-speed train line between Milan, Rome and Florence. The CIV line, which will be the longest ever built by a private sector operator in Italy, will link the cities of Milan, Rome and Florence and will involve a new branch of the Milan-Bologna railway line, an existing Rome-Florence line and a new Siena-Florence line. Avanti International will oversee the technical aspects of the CIV line from Milan to Rome and from Rome to Florence and Infostrada will deliver the operation and management aspects of the train service. Avanti International will be provided with a 15-year concession period to provide design, build and operate the CIV line. Commenting on the announcement, Antonio Guglielmo Agnello, Chief Executive of Avanti International (UK) Ltd, said: "We are delighted to have been selected to develop the CIV line. The operation of the new high-speed railway line between Milan, Rome and Florence will present us with many technical challenges. However, we believe that we have the skills and experience to ensure the successful delivery of this project. We are committed to ensuring the safest and most efficient operation of the new service and are confident that the commitment of the governments in Milan, Rome and Florence to ensuring a good quality service is reflected in our appointment." Agnello added: "We are now in the final stage of the procurement process for the design, build and operations contract. This process is being undertaken by the Italian government in partnership with Infostrada and Ferrovie dello Stato.
